Question:

Will I need snow chains or tires to travel on I-15 from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?
I frequently travel the Angeles Crest Highway and I know they require snow chains a lot during the winter. Will I need them for I-15 as well since it passes through the same mountains?

A-Best: Who knows? Carry them just to be safe. Just before departing call the toll free Caltrans 24 hour highway information hot line at 1-800-427-7623. It will give you the most up to date conditions.  

A: It depends. Currently there are no restrictions. You can check back on this site periodically: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/i15  

A: Usually when the I-15 gets bad enough to need them, the CHP closes the highway. But if you have them, take them with you. If not, just check the weather report before going. For example Wednesday night will likely bring snow to the Cajon Pass and it will likely be closed.
